I'm going to guess that you're sitting in your room right now, reading my blog, getting inspired and REALLY wanting to go to the gym, right? Good.
But, your main issue (I'm sure) is that you don't know what time to go and you know that if you head over there, at many times, the entire place will be too full to do anything productive.
Well, Moravian College has around 1200 lucky students who all get to share the tight quarters of the weight room. Therefore, timing is crucial if you actually want to get your workout done!
Now, if you have never even been to our gym - prepare yourself.
I usually enter through the doors closest to the Rau-Hassler dormitory. It is easy to find, because there's a super cool flag banner running up the stairs to keep us out of the construction area - solid barrier, Moravian.
Anyway, once you enter the building, turn to your right and go down the long, dark and smelly hallway. The gym will appear on your left, and you must be careful - it's so small, you may pass it.
Once you enter, there is cardio equipment to the right and then free weights and machines to the left. The cardio equipment is often full, so timing is definitely signficant!
- Dinner Time. For some reason, it looks as if the entire college goes to the gym between the hours of 4:30 and 6:30. It starts clearing out around 7-7:30.
- Early Morning. Many studies have shown that working out early helps to boost your mood, energy and metabolism throughout the day - so the gym is decently full in the early hours.
So, that leaves a pretty solid chunk of the day with not so busy hours in the gym! But, I understand that you have classes - so the Top 5 Best times to Go to the Gym are:
- 1 p.m. - 3 p.m. Seriously, the gym is almost empty. Many students are in class - and therefore if you don't want anyone to see the junk from your trunk a-bumpin' on the treadmill, go NOW!
- 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. This is ideal, however it CAN sometimes be a little bit full. This is the best option because you still have a LOT of day left for your metabolism to start pumping!
- 9 p.m. I can almost guarantee that you'll see MAYBE one or two students in the gym after 9 p.m., however this only gives you one hour - because the gym closes at 10 p.m.
- 7:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m/ This is generally when I work out the most. I usually get to the gym between 7:30 and 8. If the gym is still a little full, I'll utilize the hallway and the ARC!
- 8:00 a.m. - 9:00 a.m. While I said that the gym is busy during this time - it's also easy to utilize the other rooms in the center in the mean time. I'll do a plyometric workout in the hallway and downstairs until the gym clears out and then do some cardio and weight lifting!
Do not fear, dear student, for the college has decided to build a gym that will be completed...
by the time we start school.
Wait, no - invalid e-mail, it'll be completed in a few weeks!
Damn it, We've been misinformed, again? Oh, wait, here's the most recent e-mail...
It'll be ready by SPRING!
So, what else would you all like to know? I want to write about it!
XOXO,
Ms. Wisely
This is a very useful, informative post. There's never enough hours in a day, and who wants to waste time waiting to use workout machines. This can be a great time saver to know the best times to go to the gym.

ReplyDeletehahaha you're hilarious. Great post! Very useful! And you're right on. When I've been in around 9 there's hardly a soul, I can even venture away from the machines and toward the free weights, it's so empty!
Timing going to the gym is always a pain. My friend and I have vowed to start going more, but it's always tricky to time it. Thanks for this; this should be a handy reference.
ReplyDeleteSo I went to the gym around 4:45 yesterday, PACKED!
